Osi National Mapping Agreement
For more information or E-Mail-Library@gmit.ie, see www.osi.ie/services/national-mapping-agreement/ for registration information. The agreement will allow each national mapping agency to act for the first time as a one-stop shop for customers who choose to see digital mapping of one of the three organizations via their web service platforms. Public authorities are urged to make greater use of geographic information for the effective provision of public services. The Irish government`s public service reform plan supports the value of using geographic information to improve the delivery of public services. GeoSpatial`s national strategy outlines measures to optimize Ireland`s geographic infrastructure for government planning and decision-making, including the provision of a relevant, standardized and well-maintained central geoorescence dataset. The agreement was reached to help increase the use of geographic information by LA PSB in the decision-making process. The 2014 economic study by Indecon Economic Consultants identified annual savings of 82 million euros per year through the use of geographic information by PSBs in their decision-making processes. “Economic value of the geospatial industry in Ireland” Ordnance Survey Ireland is Ireland`s national mapping authority, a public body. Its financing model consists of commercial revenues (81%) 60% of its commercial revenue comes from the public sector. The NMA departs from the current distributed funding model, in which users of national government mapping products and services must have an individual licensing agreement with OSi. The NMA is specifically included in the 2014-16 Public Service Reform Plan and is highly consistent with the objectives of the government`s other objectives, including the 2012-2015 government online strategy and the public sector ICT strategy. Overall, the NMA aims to create a framework for closer cooperation and exchange of data, thereby enabling increased use of location data in more efficient decision-making processes. Ordnance Survey Ireland is an important asset at the national level and provides information that contributes to effective government decision-making, better business decisions and economic growth.
